The BBI-Imagining America awards were created to acknowledge graduate and undergraduate student research that contributes to new public knowledge on decarceration, support systems for formerly incarcerated individuals, building creative community alternatives to policing and prisons, and understanding the carceral state in California. The award recognizes research already underway and provides small seed grants for students to document their work. All UC Davis undergraduate, graduate, and professional students are eligible to apply.

Awards were created to acknowledge graduate and undergraduate student research that contributes to new public knowledge on decarceration, support systems for formerly incarcerated individuals, building creative community alternatives to policing and prisons, and understanding the carceral state in California. The award recognizes research already underway and provides small seed grants for students to document their work. All UC Davis undergraduate, graduate, and professional students are eligible to apply.

Additional Campus Funding Sources
Undergraduate Research Center
Student research may be eligible for funding and awards administered by the Undergraduate Research Center, which offers the following awards throughout the year.
- Provost Undergraduate Fellowship: The Provost’s Undergraduate Fellowship (PUF) supports undergraduate students doing research or creative projects under the guidance of UC Davis faculty members. Students from all discipline areas are eligible to apply. Applicants need to be enrolled during the quarter for which they receive the award. Past projects have involved laboratory research, field studies, survey research, film production, design and creation of art elements, music composition, fine arts performances, travel to library or research collections, and many other endeavors. The maximum award is $1,800 toward approved costs directly related to the project.
- Undergraduate Travel Award: The Undergraduate Research Center administers undergraduate travel awards for up to $500 to students who travel to present at undergraduate research conferences and meetings of regionally or internationally recognized professional societies (or discipline specific equivalent—e.g. performance at nationally recognized festivals) to present their research.
